The Awakening

The Awakening was a passion project that I worked on for several years. I released it in October 2014. I was overwhelmed by the number of players it had and the positive response it got. It got 2 million views across all websites it was featured on. A lot of those sites are now gone.
You can still play the game on Newgrounds.com, Armorgames.com or Kongregate.com. It won 3 awards on Newgrounds.
You can watch a playthrough of The Awakening here.
I worked on The Awakening for about 5 years after college. It was my love letter to gaming and the RPG games I played growing up like Suikoden and Final Fantasy 7 and 10. It's a huge game with many characters, monsters and locations to explore. I made an entire wiki for the game, mostly to keep track of everything myself.
I learned so much about game design and optimization (and how to fail at doing so) while developing The Awakening.
The Flash Player is no longer supported and this game is not playable on modern browsers in its original format. Most sites convert the game into a playable format though.
The Awakening was selected for preservation on both Flashmuseum.org and Flashpoint.

Behind the scenes

In my teenage years I invented a fake language called Methalas, inspired by JRR Tolkien's made up languages. I added some Methalas in The Awakening. Along the way I lost all my files regarding the language and this is the only surviving part of Methalas that I have left, I don't even remember what it says.
